Abstract
Phototherapy can be recommended as a form of treatment in hyperbilirubinemia of newborn. We observed 27 cases of neonatal jaundice who were treated at the Pediatric ward of National Medical Center,_ ffom Feb., 1973 to Aug., 1973 and investigated the effects of phototherapy.
1. All cases revealed lowering serum bilirubin values after light therapy and most cases received treatment for 3 or 5 days in an average.
2. Infants receiving phototherapy often had mild fever, frequent loose stool, skin rashes or eye discharge.
3. Compared with treated and non treated groups of physiologic jaundice, there were the tendency of rapidly decreasing level of serum bilirubin in treated group and slowly in non treated group.
4. Phototherapy had been shown in some degree to decrease homoglobin values.
5. At several months after phototherapy, there were no neurological abnormalities and there were no difference in developmental quotient.
